Undertook a visit to friends in Germany and to practice the language.  Received a frantic telegram from her father warning of war.  Despite no feeling of war in Germany returned 24th August.  War was declared 3rd September.  The story goes the guard who had been on duty when she entered the country earlier in August recognised her on the return journey and despite not having the correct papers let her through.
